Solar Without Panels
Save on Electricity Through Maryland Community Solar – No Rooftop Installation Required

What Is Community Solar?
Community solar is a program that lets you benefit from solar energy without putting panels on your roof. Instead of generating your own power, you subscribe to a share of a nearby solar farm. The energy generated by your share is pumped into the local grid, and your utility company (like BGE, PEPCO, or Delmarva Power) credits your electricity bill for that power.
It is the perfect solution if:
- You rent an apartment or house.
- Your roof is too shaded by trees.
- Your HOA or historic district severely restricts rooftop panels.
- Your roof is too old or structurally unsuitable for a rooftop installation.
- You simply prefer not to have hardware installed on your property.
How Community Solar Works
- Subscribe: I help you find a local Maryland community solar farm that matches your home’s historical electricity usage.
- Generate: The off-site solar farm generates clean electricity and feeds it into the local power grid.
- Get Credited: Your utility company applies “solar credits” to your monthly electric bill, reducing the amount you owe them.
- Pay Less: You pay the community solar provider for those credits at a guaranteed discount (usually 5% to 10% less than the utility’s standard rate). You save money every month.
No commitment. Filling out the form simply adds you to the waiting list. A representative will contact you when capacity opens up in your area.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it really free to join?
Yes. There are no sign-up fees, no installation costs, and no cancellation fees (though most programs require 30 to 90 days’ notice to process a cancellation). You are simply agreeing to buy solar credits at a discounted rate.
Will I receive two bills?
It depends on the program. Some programs feature “consolidated billing,” where everything is handled on your single utility bill (BGE, PEPCO, etc.). Other programs will send you a separate bill for your solar credits. I will always clearly explain the billing structure before you sign up.
What if I move?
As long as you are moving to an address within the same utility territory (e.g., from one BGE house to another BGE house), you can seamlessly transfer your subscription. If you move out of the territory, you can cancel your subscription without penalty.
